Garcia

Couture wizard Fernando Garcia's  brain is like an icloud full of fascinating facts and information about the prominent masters of design.

Possessing  a well-rounded fashion library carefully curated for over 3 decades has certainly served it's purpose. Everything Garcia learned from collecting, reading, and studying books about designers from Schiaparelli to Roberto Capucci, Mariano Fortuny, Paul Poiret-  and even industrial, furniture, and architectural designers like Marcel Breuer and  Phillipe Starck- is evidenced in all of his pieces sublime construction. Garcia's expertly- engineered garments possess such an acute attention to detail that his clients could easily choose to wear them inside out. Compliments would be sure to follow no matter which impeccably crafted side the wearer fancied for the day. In his surrealist -style, fashion lab fit for the likes of Andre Breton, it is not uncommon to witness Garcia's loyal seamstresses meticulously finishing his often sculptural and organically shaped designs completely by hand.

Mr. Garcia's aesthetic is hard to pin down because he is so profoundly adept at juxtaposing different decades with of-the-moment glamour. Throw in a big dose of va-va-voom sex appeal and hot-blooded Latin passion, and surprisingly it all works.

Say's Garcia,"I love to repurpose." Cleverly toying with everything from 100-year-old kimonos to grandma type doilies, antique bedspreads, and modern fabrics from Europe and Asia, Garcia creates pieces that are oooh and ahh-worthy for the discerning, confident client who loves to discover designers that enhance personal style rather than imitate each season's trends.

Celebrities learn about Garcia through in-the-know stylists and fashion editors who feature his designs in magazines and pull from his style lab for their client's high-wattage events. Sandra Bullock, Donatella Versace, Paulina Rubio, Christie Brinkley, Gloria Estefan, Marie J. Blige, Jada Pinkett Smith, Christina Milian and  Kelley Klein have all owned or worn  Garcia concoctions. Style icon, Sarah Jessica Parker is the icing on his client list cake. She donned Mr. Garcia's clothes not once but twice in the Sex and the City movie series. Much admired art collector, and soon to be retired gallery owner,  Bernice Steinbaum, transformed herself into an incredible work of art recently when she chose to wear bold Garcia pieces to her press events promoting her namesake film this year.  Sophisticated International clients that prefer chic destination boutiques have found  Garcia's offerings at Oxygen at Bal Harbour Shops, Fred Segal, Ron Herman, Barneys, and formerly Patricia Field. American luxury department store chain Bloomingdales dedicated an entire window on Lexington in New York City to Garcia's color-blocked dresses at the perfect time when the look took off. Articles spotlighting Garcia have been published in Forbes, Us Magazine, People, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, and Italian Vogue.

Designing one of a kind creations specifically for a bride or red carpet event is unexpectedly Garcia's most fulfilling type of assignment. When quizzed about his favorite fashion moment, instead of describing a signature scene from one of his over-the-top fashion shows he instead replied without the slightest hint of grandiose pretense,"My favorite fashion moment was seeing a client cry at the final fitting for her wedding dress with her mother in the room. She told her mother it was her favorite dress she had ever owned, and her mother was just so happy to see her daughter  happy." Apparently moved while describing the moment, Garcia added,"I even made her wedding veil."
